Voters Meeting This Sunday

Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 10:15 a.m. We will have a status of our church six months into the call process report. Every communicant member 18 years and older is encouraged to attend.

Upcoming Events

Confirmation Orientation:  For students 5th grade through 8th grade: Wednesday, August 26 from 6:00 – 7:00pm. One parent must accompany student. Classes begin Wednesday, September 2nd from 6-7pm.

North Scott Food Pantry: PVLC is scheduled to staff the NS Food Pantry on Friday, August 28 from 9:15-11:00am. Contact the church office if you will be helping.

Quilting: Begins regular every Tuesday meetings on September 1 at 9:00am.  They meet from 9am-1pm every Tuesday. (time was incorrect in the newsletter)

Fall Worship Begins: after Labor Day. We go back to 8 & 10:30am services on Sunday, September 13th.

Summer Worship Ends: Our last Thursday worship service is at 7pm on September 3rd and final Sunday worship service at 9:00am is September 6th.

Sunday School Rally Day: Sunday, September 13th at 9:15am as we continue to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday.

Sunday School/Bible Study: Regular classes begin Sunday, September 20 at 9:15am.

Sunday Treats After Services

We are in need of members to bring treats after the 9:00 a.m. service on Sunday and, when we return to our fall services, between services. There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the fellowship hall.

Preschool Volunteers Needed

Share and Care Preschool is looking for some volunteers next week to help do some deep cleaning/dusting in the classrooms during morning hours. Please text Jen Rathe if able to help at 319-830-6641. Thank you!

Blood Emergency Happening Across the Country

Contact Sue Raleigh  or the church office at 285-9035 to sign up; sign up online at bloodcenter.org or sign up on the table in the fellowship hall for the PVLC Blood Drive happening on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome! O positive and negative most needed.

2026-2027 Sunday School Teachers/Co-Teachers Needed

We are actively looking for a Preschool Teacher/Co-Teacher and a Kindergarten–2nd Grade Teacher/Co-Teacher. If you are interested in this rewarding ministry, please see Bethany Dorschner, Melissa Drummond, or Kim Cronkleton.

Seeking Nursery Helpers

The Sunday School Superintendents are looking for individuals interested in staffing the nursery during the Sunday School hour for teaching staff with little ones under the age of 3. If you would be interested in serving a Sunday each month, please contact Kim Cronkleton, Melissa Drummond, or even Bethany Dorschner.

Adult Senior Mid-Week Bible Study

We are exploring interest in starting an Adult Bible Study for seniors on either Monday or Wednesday afternoons. Before making plans, we’d like to see if there is enough interest to form a group. If at least six people are interested, the study will move forward.

Sunday Bible Study

Join us as we begin looking at the Early Church. In the opening session we stand with the first believers at Caesarea Philippi, where confessing Christ meant risking everything. Surrounded by idols and opposition, early Christians proclaimed Jesus as Lord with courage rooted in His victory. Their witness invites us to consider what it means to follow Christ today—trusting Him boldly, even when faith brings challenge or sacrifice.

Late Service Communion Washers

The church office is actively seeking new late service communion washers to step forward. PVLC has had some great losses in our volunteer circle this year. If you have a few minutes after the late service to wash up the communion ware alongside another volunteer, please contact the church office.

Cry Room and Busy Bags Available

We just wanted to remind parents when our smallest congregation members become a little disagreeable that there is a “cry room” and busy bags in the back of the sanctuary.

Member emergencies

If members need to see a Pastor immediately (in case of emergency/death, etc.) we will be asking members to contact the church office. We will also publicize the phone numbers of elders Scott Campbell and Quintin Gerard (contact the church office for those phone numbers).  Once notification has been made, Pastor Kincaid will be contacted. If he is available, he will drive down. If not, an elder may make first contact, or Pastor Kincaid will reach out to Pastor Kent Umbarger, recently retired from St. John’s East Moline, who lives in Bettendorf.

Attendance Cards Reminder

As we continue through this time of a pastoral vacancy, all members and guests are asked to please fill out a yellow attendance card each Sunday morning or Wednesday during Lent. These cards help us accurately track attendance, stay connected as a worshiping community, and help to better support the life of the church. Thank you for your participation and continued faithfulness.

Recorded Worship Services

We will be recording our 8 AM Sunday services and 1 PM Wednesday Lenten services for those who are unable to attend service in person. While nothing replaces gathering together for worship, these recordings are offered as a resource for those who are homebound, traveling, or ill.
