We believe early childhood should be a time of fun, warmth, security, exploring and discovering in a structured environment. Our activities include:

  • Reading Readiness (pre-reading and pre-writing skills, alphabet recognition with Letter of the Week)
  • Math Readiness (recognition of numbers and shapes and simple math)
  • Language Development (with Show & Share)
  • Literature (daily story time)
  • Music (songs and fingerplays)
  • Art Projects (daily projects using many different media)
  • Social Skills (learning to get along in small and large group situations)
  • Listening and Following Directions Skills (both individually and in a group)
  • Games (cooperative group games)
  • Faith Class (simple Bible stories and songs)
  • Special Theme Days (throughout the year)
  • Thanksgiving and Easter Devotions
  • Birthday Celebration for Jesus in December
  • Recognition Day Presentation in May

Since many of our children attend preschool for more than one year, we have developed a 3 year rotating curriculum with different themes and activities each year.

Preschool is in session from late August through May. The first day of school is an orientation day for parents and a play day for preschoolers.

We offer a loving and caring Christian environment for your child's first school experience. We encourage parent involvement. We strive to nurture and encourage each child:

  • to grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically
  • to develop a good self-concept
  • to be creative and learn about the world around him or her

All our sessions offer an excellent foundation in pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) skills.

Denise Weiss - Director

Denise and Rod have two children, Jeremy and Emily. Denise’s first knowledge of Share and Care was when her daughter Emily attended, and they became members of Park View Lutheran. Emily is now married to Brad Peters. They live in Iowa City and have a daughter, Caitlynn, born in 2008. Jeremy lives in Davenport and works for Von Maur as Systems Administrator. Emily is a RN, MSN and teaching nursing at Kirkwood College and is PRN at the NICU at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Denise joined the Share and Care faculty in August of 1986. She started out working as a teacher for 20 hours a week under the direction of Pat Schrage.   When Pat retired, Betty Lockhart became Director. Denise has been Lead Teacher, On-Site Supervisor over the past 26 years. This will be her third year as Director of Share and Care after Betty’s retirement in 2012. She thoroughly loves being with the children and coming up with new ideas to share with them. Many of the new ideas are tried out on her granddaughter, Caitlynn.

When Denise is not at preschool she is working part time as a Registrar at Genesis DeWitt in the Emergency entrance. In her free time you can find her making cards, quilting, sewing or reading. Both Denise and Rod enjoy doing these activities together. She also enjoys being outside enjoying the beautiful flowers and roses Rod lovingly grows.

Rhonda Upmeyer - Lead Teacher

I was first a preschool mom when our two boys attended Share and Care. I started as a substitute aide in 2008, became the teacher’s aide in 2011 and this will now be my third year as lead teacher. I have also worked as a classroom helper and substitute teacher’s aide at the North Scott Elementary Schools and have been active in my church, St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove. I recently obtained a certificate in Early Childhood Education and continue to take early childhood training workshops and classes whenever possible to further my knowledge in this area.

I live in Eldridge with my husband, Carl, and two boys, Nick (15) and Alex (13). We are active in the North Scott community and our boys are involved in music, sports and various extra-curricular activities in school. I enjoy baking, reading and traveling but most times you can find me at various soccer fields or band concerts with my boys. We enjoy participating in road races, attending Cubs and Hawkeye games, and making weekend trips to Chicago and visiting family in Texas.

I thoroughly enjoy working and interacting with preschool-aged children and take pleasure in inspiring them to learn and experience new things. I am looking forward to being with all of the children and staff again this year, both seeing old friends from last year and meeting new ones just starting with us. Let’s have a great year!

Shawna Duncan- Teacher's Aide

Shawna Duncan and her husband William live in rural Long Grove and they have three children, Ava, Amelia, and Gabriel, a dog and bees.   She became acquainted with Share and Care when enrolling her youngest in preschool after moving her from Illinois. She was added to our staff part time substitute in January 2016 to help with the Tuesday and Thursday class. She received her Bachelors of Science in Finance from Bradley University.

Shawna is very active in Long Grove Christian Church as well as a Preschool age Sunday school teacher. She is also a Leader for Clover Kids 4-H, which is for kindergarten through third grade.

Her family has recently developed an interest in bee keeping and started some hives at their home. They also enjoy astronomy, and amateur radio. Shawna also enjoys reading, crocheting, knitting and puzzles. She really enjoyed being a substitute here and is looking forward to being a Teacher’s Aide on the Tuesday and Thursday.

Kendra Ervin- Teacher's Aide

Kendra and husband, Andy, of 14 years, live in Park View and have three children, Nathan, Brooke and Kaylee. All three of children have attended Share and Care.

We are active members at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Eldridge, where I help in the nursery and toddler room during the church service. I also help Vacation Bible School each summer. I graduated from St. Ambrose University with an Elementary Education degree. I worked in various schools after graduating until I became a stay at home mom. In my free time, I love to garden, play sports, travel, scrapbook, and sew. I also absolutely love to watch my kids play sports, dance and play music. I am thrilled to be part of the Share and Care team and can’t wait to work with your child and help them learn and grow!

The early training of a child is the most significant training he or she receives. A Christian early childhood experience provides a child with a faith foundation for life. Not only are his or her intellectual, emotional needs recognized, but also his or her spiritual needs. The result of such an experience will be a well-rounded child who acknowledges the daily presence of Jesus Christ in his or her life.
